The 54 foot classic schooner,
Carrina, was built in 1914, by R.J.Perkins and sons
in Whitstable, Devon, to a design by Frederick Shepard, but
was not launched until 1929 when she was commissioned by Lord
Carrington. Built of the finest Burmese teak planking on English
grown oak frames, fastened with copper and bronze, and with
an all teak superstructure. she was built to Lloyds 100A1
and maintained to Lloyds until 1947. |
| |
| |
Originally designed as a gaff rigged
topsail schooner, her rig was changed in 1946 and Carrina
became the very first yacht to be fitted with a running wishbone
rig. |
| |
This is a rare opportunity to own one
of the worlds unique classic yachts, extremely original and
very well cared for and maintained. A real peice of maritime
history |
| |
Her interior is almost completely original,
some alteration and modification over the years has been done,
but her original fittings and panneling remain intact and
in wonderful condition. Carrina's saloon,
opposite, showing the old Honduras Mahogany polished interior
with original gimbaled table and original chairs. The carpets
and upholstery were renewed in 1999. Carrina sails well on
all points of the wind, is very heavily displaced and incredibly
buoyant in heavy seas, is a very dry, stable and comfortable
boat. |

Carrinas originality
and quality of build make her a very unique part of maritime
history. The comfortable cockpit area has fitted cushions
and seating area. But it is only when going below decks that
one really appreciates her true beauty and originality. Only
the finest Honduras mahogany was used in the construction
of the interior, hand crafted and french polished by Robertsons
of London, who were accredited with some of London's most
prestigious shops of the time, and is as complete and intact
as the day she was fitted out. In the cabins, the original
plated pumps and marble top wash basins are still in place,
as is the french polished mahogany paneling. The dining table
and chairs are all original and wonderfully preserved with
the patina that only comes with age. She is, in fact, better
than 95% original and still offers a warm and comfortable
welcome to those who step aboard. |
